The central stretch of coast, between Santa Barbara and San Francisco, contains awe-inspiring vistas of an endless, raging ocean hurling itself at the base of spectacular cliffs. The Big Sur coastline, where the Santa Lucia Mountains rise straight out of the water, is so beautiful it can bring tears to your eyes.

The southern coastal stretch, with Santa Monica’s wide, white beaches, is the quintessential Californian holiday location.
Although it's the most laid-back state in the USA, there's an awful lot to discover in California.
